Patty and Selma will be ecstatic at this news. What is dead may never die, and MacGyver is the latest artifact from the 1980’s to be exhumed for rejuvenation. The TV series about the adventures of a man who can build any nifty gadget out of ordinary objects will be coming to the big screen. And James Wan, director of Saw and Insidious, will be at the helm. THR speculates that New Line picked him because of his experience working with small budgets, and that thus they plan to give this film similarly reduced funding. Makes sense to me, and if it’s the case, I suppose it’s a smart move, since Wan’s spun some great profit out of his previous movies.
There’s no word on when the film will be coming out, nor who will be taking on the lead role of MacGyver, nor who will be taking on the role of MacGyver’s transcendent mullet. I’m not terribly enthused by this project, but we’ll see where it goes.
