If you take a look at some of the most successful Westerns ever made by Hollywood, one would think that African Americans didn’t also gun tote, ride horses and chew tobacco. For such a popular genre, it was interesting to see how blacks were omitted from the old western movies. On the contrary, there was indeed a demand for western movies with black lead actors and a all black cast for an all black audience. In result, African Americans took it upon themselves to create their own Western films–dating all the way back to 1938. Betcha didn’t know that!
