Tablet Computers Will Be The Hot Holiday Gift Item

Many Americans can expect to find a tablet under their tree this holiday season, new research shows.

A study by TechBargains.com, the deal aggregation website for electronic products, found that more than half of the consumers surveyed plan to purchase a tablet as part of this year’s holiday shopping, up more than 10 percentage points from one year ago.

The Google Nexus 7 edges out the iPad as this year’s favorite. The survey found that one-third of tablet shoppers plan to pick up the Nexus 7, with nearly 30% opting for an iPad and 24% choosing Apple’s newest release, the iPad Mini. The Microsoft Surface tablet, Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet were the least desired.

“With more tablets on the market to fit every size budget, our survey reveals consumers are even more interested this year versus last year in giving and receiving a tablet — the must-have tech gadget this holiday season,” said Yung Trang, president and editor-in-chief of TechBargains.com.

The research shows that good value, favorable product reviews and brand reputation are the most important factors to shoppers when deciding which tablet to buy.

Of those planning a tablet purchase, nearly half plan to buy it as a gift for someone else, while 34% will buy one for themselves, according to the survey. One in five plan to do both.
