Diane Sawyer Shrugs Off Twitter Critics

Diane Sawyer was the target of some harsh Twitter jokes on Election Day, but a day later she’s apparently unfazed, shrugging off claims that she was intoxicated during ABC’s election coverage.

Sawyer was a trending topic on Twitter as users watched her stumble over words Tuesday night. “I’ll have what Diane Sawyer is having” tweeted singer Josh Groban, a sample of the messages targeting the ABC anchor. Speculation over whether or not Sawyer was drunk continued throughout the night.

The next day, Sawyer responded via her own account, in good spirits.

“Awe for the @ABC powerhouse team. Hail the techs who kept us on air…” she posted, referring to a 25 minute power outage the studio experienced. “Read your tweets the good, bad, and the funny. See you on @ABCWorldNews.”

While Sawyer did not mention her performance on Tuesday, she handled her critics gracefully. A post-election interview between Sawyer and House Speaker John Boehner will air on ABC tonight.
