No, this isn’t some Halloween prank – it’s actually a new promotion for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as well as Air New Zealand’s in-flight safety videos. As seen on The Wrap, residents of the shire, along with elves, wizards, and other Middle Earth creatures are passengers aboard an Air New Zealand flight and help explain the plane’s safety features. Despite the fact the video was nearly 5 minutes of safety instructions I’ve heard countless times, I was enthralled as if it was the Blockbuster film itself.
There were some notable cameos in the instructional video, including Gollum and New Zealand native Peter Jackson. It should come as no surprise Jackson made a cameo, it is his signature move after all. This isn’t the first time Air New Zealand has employed celebrities for a safety video, Ed O’Neill and Richard Simmons have also starred in an Air New Zealand instructional video. At this rate “airline safety videos” will be getting their own category in the Golden Golden Globes.
Check it out for yourself and get excited for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to hit theaters this December.

P.S. Was it just me or was that plan particularly awesome? I’ve never seen one with so many bells, whistles, and ottomans. If I ever fly to New Zealand, I know what airline to take!
