Watch the Super-Icky Trailer for the 'Evil Dead' Remake

This red band trailer for Evil Dead already leaked last week, after someone taped its showing at the New York Comic Con. But now you can view an official, clean, and crisp version of the trailer. Well, “clean” being a relative term. Since it’s full of delightfully horrific blood and guts, such as demon-possessed individuals slicing into their cheeks and tongues with various sharp implements, among all other manner of bodily harm.

Like the original The Evil Dead, which was released in 1981 and starred Bruce Campbell, this movie follows a group of college students who are terrorized by demonic forces when they go on vacation at a remote cabin in the woods. The premise has had a lot of its thunder stolen by subsequent horror movie imitators (this year’s Cabin in the Woods riffs hugely on the conventions of such plots), but, in spite of my wariness towards remakes, I can’t help but be interested in this. It just looks soooooooo vicious. It helps that Sam Raimi, director of the original, is on board as a producer. Also, while I, like any red-blooded movie fan, love Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness immensely, not much about the first Evil Dead really sticks in my memory. So I don’t quite consider it holy ground being trod upon.

I would hope this would go without saying after describing the terrible things that happen in the video, but it is most assuredly not safe for work. View at your own discretion. The trailer comes courtesy of IGN. Evil Dead is directed by Fede Alvarez, stars Jane Levy, will be released sometime next year.
