The official synopsis has been released for Kick-Ass 2, giving fanboys and casual audiences alike some general idea of what exactly will play out in the sequel to 2010’s smash action-oriented comedy.
Sure, you’ve heard the rumors surrounding Jim Carrey, heard about Red Mists’ transformation to The Mother F*cker, and wondered how Chloe Grace Moretz‘s character is dealing with high school, but haven’t heard any sort of plot details linking it all together. Universal has heard your cry and responded accordingly.
“When we last saw Hit-Girl (Moretz) and Kick-Ass (Johnson), they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.
“Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit-Girl, she’s forced to retire – leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes (Carrey).
“Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F*cker (Mintz-Plasse), assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.”
It’ll be interesting to see what sort of approach Kick-Ass 2 plans to take in captivating filmgoers. In the original, audiences simply followed Dave, played by the simple (but lovable) Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The film’s success lied in watching his reality based problems, his awkward situation with girls, and subsequent transformation into a crime-fighting hero. In other words, it took viewers on a coming-of-age ride. With the amount of characters now followed, will audiences still be able to enjoy such a ride or be left indifferent to their problems?
Luckily, there’s still plenty of time before Kick-Ass 2‘s release on June 28. That leaves plenty of time to fit in publicity material, hype up audiences, and rekindle the emotional investment placed in its characters. Seeing how exciting this brief plot synopsis is, it’s obvious Kick-Ass 2 will not disappoint.
