The First Official 'Hitchcock' Trailer is Here!

A ’50s-set biopic starring two Oscar-winning thespians? The AMPAS must be chomping at the bit to honor Hitchcock!  And after offering a few production stills and a cheeky poster, Fox Searchlight released the first official trailer for the film today.

This big-screen look into the life of legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock stars Anthony Hopkins as the lionized director and Helen Mirren as his longtime wife and collaborator Alma Reville. Based on Stephen Rebello’s critically-lauded non-fiction book, the movie centers on Hitchcock’s struggles to adapt Robert Bloch’s Psycho, (a low-rent slasher story), into what would become his best known film. The film also features Scarlett Johannson as Janet Leigh and Jessica Biel as Vera Miles.

With Hopkins and Mirren headlining this biopic, Hitchcock is expected to do well come awards season. The only question mark comes in the form of director Sacha Gervasi, making his feature-length narrative film debut. With a few writing credits under his belt, (including one for Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal), Gervasi garnered praise for helming the award-winning documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil.  Any doubts in Gervasi’s abilities, however, can be put aside after seeing this trailer.  Based on the great production design, expertly chosen music, and cheeky performances, audiences can still be confident in Hitchcock‘s Oscar chances this winter.

The film is set to appear in theaters on November 23rd, with a world premiere coming on opening night of AFI Fest on November 1st.
