Trailer Released For 'Not Fade Away': A New Spin On A Classic Story

A slew of goodies have been released in the wake of the New York Film Festival, none more tantalizing than the trailer for Not Fade Away – a rock and roll story told from womb to tomb.

As the official poster promises, Not Fade Away shows the birth of a rock and roll band from its most infant place of conception: the basement of a parent’s household. In this case, James Gandolfini plays the unconvinced father of John Magaro, who aptly plays the angst-ridden teenager vowing for fame. Jack Huston, Will Brill and Bella Heathcote join him as his fellow band mates and love interest.

The story, set in suburban New Jersey in the 1960s, follows Magaro’s character (whose name has yet to be found out) as he attempts to start a Rolling Stones based rock group. The film showcases the various trials and tribulations – ranging from professional to personal – as they attempt to shed their humble roots and make it big.

Not Fade Away was written and directed by David Chase, the mastermind behind the hit HBO series The Sopranos. Although this will be his first feature film, Chase has the veteran aid of not only Gandolfini, but Brad Garrett and Christopher McDonald as well in the form of supporting roles. As if he needs it. As seen in the trailer, Chase and Gandolfini haven’t lost their combined touch in portraying a gruff and growling father.

Not Fade Away hits theatres later this year on December 21. Enjoy the trailer below, and try not to picture Gandolfini with a pistol behind his back as he badgers Magaro (Hint: it’s near impossible).
