Chris Brown announced on Thursday that he and girlfriend Karrueche Tran were splitting up because he didn’t want her hurt by his continued involvement with Rihanna. The announcement comes on the heels of several public displays of affection between Brown and Rihanna who appear to be cementing their “friendship.”
Let’s recap: Earlier this week, Brown and Rihanna were allegedly spotted making out at Griffen nightclub in New York City. The next day, Brown was seen leaving the hotel where Rihanna was staying. On Wednesday, the pair were allegedly cozied up at the Jay Z concert at the Barclay Center. And on Thursday, Chris came clean. Sort of.
“I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don’t want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I’d rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives,” Brown said in an official statement. Following the announcement, Brown released a video on YouTube entitled “The Real Chris Brown” in which he says he is anguished over “loving two people at the same time.” The video includes pictures of Brown with both Rihanna and Tran.
“I’m stressed out…when you share history with somebody, then you tend to fall in love with somebody else, it’s kinda difficult,” Brown says in the video. “Is there such a thing as loving two people? I don’t know if it’s possible, but for me, I feel like it.”
Tran tweeted her response: “WTF is going on? All I’m saying is…You don’t mess with people’s genuine feelings. You just don’t! Life moves on…So let’s all.” The pixie-sized model was spotted on Thursday leaving the Soho Trump Hotel after saying goodbye to a female friend and heading to the airport.
Rihanna has remained mum on the situation except for a tweet in which she wrote: “Ain’t nobody bidness….But mine and my baby!” Minus Brown’s public statement and Rihanna’s confession to Oprah that Brown is the “love her life” this seems like a good idea lest the pair should become the new Bobby and Whitney.
