Ann Coulter is no stranger to controversy as the outspoken conservative and wildly offensive pundit on FOX News. Her comments always draw debate and ratings, but as of late have been rudely directed towards blacks in America, immigrants, minorities and civil right access surrounding the November election. During a roundtable discussion on Sunday’s popular “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” Coulter ranted that the “Democrats are dropping the Blacks and moving on to the Hispanics,” in reference to the targeted promotion and support from Democrats of the Latino vote.
When questioned about the Democratic party abandoning black Americans in order to capture the Latino vote she responded, “civil rights are for the blacks.” Coulter continued, “I think the way liberals have treated blacks like children and many of their policies have been harmful to blacks, at least they got the beneficiary group right. There is the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws.”
Coulter stated, “We don’t owe the homeless. We don’t owe feminists. We don’t owe women who are desirous of having abortions, or gays who want to get married to one another.” She concluded, “much of the left…dropped the blacks after five minutes” to argue for “civil rights” for other groups of people.
So to be clear, Coulter does not agree that civil rights are for homosexuals, immigrants nor feminists. Coulter added, “No. I think civil rights are for blacks. What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something. We have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven’t even been in this country.”
Based on Coulter’s acknowledgement of the legacy of chattel slavery in America, perhaps she is an ignorant supporter of reparations, and not just a hateful conservative with a national platform that is FOX News. The latest in a barrage of offensive commentary comes on the eve of Coulter’s newest book release, “Mugged: Racial Demagoguery From the Seventies to Obama” in which she argues many groups of the left have “commandeered the black civil rights experience.” Oh. Thank you Ann for the clarity in American history post civil rights movement.
Coulter makes no apologies for her views on immigrants, nor their lack of human rights as opposed to civil rights (neither are of her concern, obviously) so based on her…logic…the larger question during this election becomes what or who determines when an “illegal” is granted civil rights status/consideration? According to Coulter, never; that is “Black” territory.
Only in America, rich in liberty and individual freedoms, would Ann Coulter, someone as ignorant to the collective plight of others with vitriolic opinions about liberals be given a weekly national platform to spread propaganda. Maintaining that no other minority group misrepresented or lacking in equal human rights should not join in the collective fight for civil rights is ridiculous. Conversations about civil and human rights in America should always be inclusive as opposed to exclusive, and no one with a lens as narrow as Coulter’s should be allowed to lead the discussion for fear of ignorant circular deliberation.
