Robin Roberts Undergoes Transplant Today, Tells Fans She Feels Love

Robin Roberts taped a moving message for fans that aired today on “Good Morning America” as Roberts prepared to receive her bone marrow transplant scheduled for today at a New York Hospital.

Sitting up in what appeared to be a hospital bed connected to machines, Roberts looked in the camera and told fans she could actually feel their love coming her way. Roberts has been receiving chemotherapy for the last eight days in preparation for the transplant, which is necessary after she was diagnosed with the rare blood disorder, myelodysplastic syndrome.

Roberts is already a breast cancer survivor.

“This journey is as much about the mind as it is the body,” Roberts, 51, said. “Thoughts are so powerful. You’ve got to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel. And let me just say this lastly, I feel the love and I thank you for it. Thank you.”

On her blog post on Tuesday, Roberts wrote, “You give me the courage to keep going. Bless you & Onward!”

Viewers and members of the media flooded Twitter today with words of support for Roberts, whose medical leave could last several months as her body determines whether it will accept the new bone marrow—which was donated to her by her sister Sally-Ann.
