Let’s just admit it, the best part of Marvel’s comic book character Iron Man, is watching Tony Starks (Robert Downey Jr.) suit up. In Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and The Avengers, directors always found a new way for Downey to suit up when the going got tough. Iron Man 3 director Shane Black, has plans to take it a step further, by eliminating the need to get into a suit altogether. Instead, the suit will be built into Starks DNA.
Iron Man 3 will indeed involve nano-technology that will make Tony Starks more than just a man in a suit. The line from The Avenger when Captain America (Chris Evans) said to Starks, “Big Man in a suit of armor. Take that away, and what are you?” seem to have really struck a cord with the billionaire playboy.
The Iron Man 3 panel featured a prototype of the suit at Comic-Con in July. Some images posted online suggest the suit will look like the Iron Patriot armor from the comics, but in a post by Screenrant, it’s confirmed that color scheme is for War Machine played by Don Cheadle.
With the idea of nano-technology for new suit, the variants of Iron Man suits in Iron Man 3 seem endless. The idea that Starks can change into multiple suits at will, is almost too much to comprehend right now. If it’s anything like the Extremis mini-series this might be the best Iron Man yet.
Drew Pearce authored the screenplay and Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Jon Favreau, Cobie Smulders, William Sadler, Rebecca Hall and James Badge Dale round out the cast of co-stars.
Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013.
