Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada have finalized their divorce and the events leading up to it was ratings gold for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network. Unlike her former Basketball Wives co-star Jennifer Williams, Evelyn Lozada finalized her divorce from Chad in less than one month.
We’ll admit it appeared this divorce would never happen, given Johnson’s repeated efforts to win back his estranged wife. But Evelyn left no room for a reconciliation. In fact, every interview she did from People mag to Iyanla she reaffirmed her desire to end the marriage. Finally Johnson got the message and last week filed his own divorce papers. One week later the former couple are officially no more.
In case you were under a rock, in early August Chad and Evelyn were engaged in a heated argument that left the reality TV star with a gash on her head that required stitches. Since the incident, Evelyn has taken up the crusade for domestic violence. Prior to the unfortunate incident the Basketball Wives star was scheduled to sit with OWN’s Iyanla Vanzant debut show ‘Fix my Life’. As you can imagine producers had to scramble to get the real juicy story behind the headlines.
Part one aired on Saturday night with part two including the post domestic violence, divorce news aired on Sunday night. The total viewers for both nights totaled 2.7 million viewers for OWN with 1.6 coming from the latter. On Saturday Oprah scored the second highest watched show on cable for its time period.
Many believed the show helped Evelyn revamp her image. On Twitter she appeared to be a new person, “LOVING MYSELF HEALS MY LIFE…… ❤”
Evelyn’s now ex-husband Chad Johnson is also hoping to change his image and Philadelphia may just be the place. Time will tell if he’ll get another chance in the NFL.
