Jose Padilha is directing Robocop with a screenplay from Josh Zetumer and Nick Schenk. Padilha was able to wrangle some serious talent for the reboot with co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael K. Williams, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
This will be the reboot of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven version of the RoboCop, where Alex Murphy, a cop who was fatally wounded in the line of duty, is salvaged into a cyborg cop by the powerful multinational conglomerate OmniCorp that specializes in advance robotics technology. Murphy, now part human and part robot, returns to duty in a crime-ridden city where he battles with haunting memories and attempts to rid the streets of criminal activity.
Columbia Pictures will release RoboCop in theaters, August 9, 2013.
