Iconic jazz tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins
The London Jazz Festival recently announced the lineup for its 20th festival with over 250 shows at over 50 venues across the city.
The festival, which runs from 9 to 18 November, will host some of jazz’s biggest stars, including Herbie Hancock playing his first ever UK solo show, the 82-year-old Sonny Rollins, Chick Corea and Jan Garbarek. Younger talent will be amply represented by the likes of double bassist Esperanza Spalding, pianist Robert Glasper and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire.
World music and its intersections with jazz continues to be a strong strand of the programme. Flamenco guitar legend Paco de Lucia will perform at the Festival Hall, rising stars pianist Tigran Hamasyan and oud player Ara Dinkjian, both Armenian, look set to be two of the festival’s hottest tickets.
