The Godzilla reboot has received its release date. Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have announced that the the film will hit theaters on May 16, 2014. And like of all the rest of the reboots nowadays, it will be in 3D. The domestic distribution president for the studio, Dan Fellman, and international distribution president Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, made the decision alongside Legendary Pictures. Earlier in the summer, the film got a standing ovation at Comic-Con in San Diego.
Godzilla is being made in partnership with the rights owner Toho. The character is very popular appearing in over 25 films, numerous television shows, books and video games. The studios’ plan is to return the character to its epic roots and adding a little grittiness to it.
Gareth Edwards will directed Godzilla. He previously directed Monsters, and he will be heading the script which was penned by the collective of David Callaham, who recently wrote The Expendables 2, David S. Goyer (the Dark Knight trilogy) and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son). Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni both from Legendary will produce, alongside Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are the executive producers, where they will work along with Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.
Warner Bros will release Godzilla worldwide, except in Japan, where Toho will release it.
