Production has officially started on Kick-Ass 2, and writer/director Jeff Wadlow has signed on another cast member for the film. Wadlow has confirmed the hiring of female bodybuilder, Olga Kurkulina, to play the part of Mother Russia in the highly-anticipated sequel.
Kurkulina had this to say when discussing the role:
I spent three weeks in the casting, which took place at Pinewood studios. At the end, the director told me that I was getting a role. My people worked hard and from the heart to help me. On August 30th we fly to Toronto for a month’s shooting on location, and then we go back to London where stunts will be filmed at a local studio. Now I’m training hard, learning new movements for attack and defense, working with professionals on my acting, and speech training.
Kick Ass 2 is a film, which will feature an ensemble cast of misfit superhero characters who will fight crime. The gang will go up against The Red Mist, an enemy character who built a team of his own “supervillains”, in order to defeat both Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl. Mother Russia, will serve as Red Mist’s bodyguard.
Kurkulina joins a star-studded cast which already include Jim Carrey, Donald Faison, Morris Chestnut, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nicolas Cage and John Leguizamo.
Kick Ass 2 will be released in the summer of 2013.
