Chris Lighty – Hip Hop heavyweight Chris Lighty died this morning reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an argument with his estranged wife, Veronica.
Thursday morning, Paul Browne, the chief spokesperson for the New York City police department confirmed that Chris Lighty, 44, was found dead in his Bronx apartment with a 9 mm found at the scene.
Soon after the news Twitter lit up with condolences from fans but most notable the entertainers that Lighty touched through his management company and label Violator.
Fat Joe, who was the first artist signed by Lighty tweeted, “R.I.P. Chris Lighty. The man that saved my life!”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs added: “In shock. R.I.P Chris Lighty. He Was A Dear Friend Of Mind And I Still Can’t Believe It.”
Rihanna posted: “Rest peacefully Chris Lighty, my prayers go out to family and loved ones! Dear God please have mercy.”
Mary J. Blige wrote: “U never know what can send a person over the edge or make them want 2 keep living. take it easy on people.”
50 Cent, who has Lighty to thank for his $100 deal with Vitamin Water released a statement through his rep,
“Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade. He was a good friend and advisor who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.”
The condolences will continue to poor in as the hip hop world settles down with this news. Lighty was one of six children, three brothers, two sisters and is survived by his two children and estranged wife Veronica.
