Samuel L Jackson has joined the cast of the film Oldboy, which is a revenge thriller slated to be directed by Spike Lee.
According to Empire, ‘Oldboy finds Josh Brolin as Joe Douchett, a man held captive in a nondescript room for 15 years, seemingly without cause. When his captor (Sharlto Copley) lets him go, and offers him a few details on what happened and who is responsible, he sets off on a mission to exact vengeance from those who caused him such pain.’
In Oldboy, Jackson is set to play a small role, in fact, he’s going to play a villain who is brutally tortured by Josh Brolin’ character, according to sources. Brolin character, on the other hand, has had a rough phase in his life. He is a man who has been detained by mysterious people for years for no apparent reason and no explanation. In the original Oldboy, the torture scene included tooth-removal. Lee mentioned that he will move away from that style of pain but the punishment will be just as intensive.
Jackson has most recently played Nick Fury in the Avengers, while Lee is currently on a small promotional tour for his latest film Red Hook Summer, which is in select theaters now.
Composer Bruce Hornsby will write the music for the film. He recently said, “I’m working on a few things, and I’ll send them to Spike soon. The ‘D’ word [‘darkness’] has been spoken to me by him, but I think the score will also run the gamut.”
