Actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste Set to Join Samuel L. Jackson in ‘Robocop’ Remake

Marianne Jean-Baptiste is set to star opposite Joel Kinnaman, Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman in the MGM’s remake of Robocop.

The actioner is set to start shooting in Toronto next month. Jean-Baptiste will portray the character of Detroit Police Chief, Karen Dean.

Elite Squad helmer Jose Padilha is directing an origin story from Josh Zetumer‘s script. Kinnaman stars as the crimefighter, a Detroit police office who’s transformed into RoboCop after he’s murdered while on duty.

Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing the remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film. Sony is distributing and has set an Aug. 9, 2013 domestic release date.

Jean-Baptiste will be seen in The Moment opposite Jennifer Jason Leigh and Martin Henderson; Violet & Daisy with James Gandolfini and Saoirse Ronan; Fernando Meirelles’ 360 opposite Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, and Rachel Weisz; and Won’t Back Down with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis. She was on seven seasons of CBS’s Without A Trace.
