Maria Howell Joins 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

Lionsgate announced today that Maria Howell has joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and is entrusted with the role of Seeder. A former victor from District 11, Seeder competes in the 75th Annual Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best selling novel Catching Fire. It begins with Katniss Everdeen’s return home after safely winning the 74th Hunger Games along with a fellow tribute. After winning, it now means that she must turn around and abandon her family and friends, embarking on a victory tour of all the districts. All the while, Katniss senses a brewing rebellion, but the Capitol is still in absolute power as President Snow prepares for the next deadly games.

Howell is known for her voice, singing scores for the movie The Color Purple and also appearing on TV shows including Army Wives, Drop Dead Diva, The Vampire Diaries, Meet the Browns, House of Payne and in the football film The Blind Side.

Francis Lawrence is at the helm and the film will be produced by Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik.

Lionsgate is set to release The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on November 22, 2013.
