Drake Confirms Aaliyah Album Is A Go; Kim K, Kanye West VMA Skit

No matter that Timbaland and Aaliyah’s brother has spoken out against a posthumous album, Drake is moving forward and according to him with the full support of the aforementioned people.

Earlier this week Drake released “Enough Said” to lukewarm response and announced his ambitious plans.

First Timbaland, producer and friend of the late singer, spoke out, “I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if he do it, it should be with me and Missy [Elliot]. The proper way for him to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record. But to put it on his record, would just not be right.”

Then Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton wrote on her fan page,

“There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.”

None of that seem to matter as Drake revealed in a backstage interview,

“People should be really excited. People thought it was my single; it’s not my single. It’s all off of an Aaliyah project that me and 40 are commanding and 40′s just doing some incredible, some incredible music right now.”

He added, “To get 13, 14 new Aaliyah songs, everybody should be excited. It’s not about me. It’s not about 40. It’s about her and her fans and us just getting the opportunity to give you something that we feel is great. And the people around her, everybody from her family to her old management and label, were like, ‘If there’s anyone out that can do it right now, it’s [you] and 40.’ And that was an honor and we’re going to pull in some classic people, anybody who used to work with Aaliyah that was essential in her career we definitely hope to have them involved. So it’s great. You get a new Aaliyah album this year on top of everything.”

There you have it…no one needs to remind Drake there are only 3 months and some weeks left in the year.

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian

Meanwhile Kanye West’s perfect b*tch (his words not ours) Kim Kardashian joined comedian Kevin Hart in a skit for MTV VMAs.

In the hilarious ad, we see Hart looking in the mirror, assessing himself after he has just put on a tuxedo, and he’s talking to an unseen person in the other room about what they are wearing. When he pops into the room, we see that he’s talking to Kim K—who is gazing down at her ever-present cellphone—and Kanye, who is sitting next to her on the bed.

In other Kim K news. Her mother Kris Jenner stands accused once again of the selling Kim’s infamous sex tape to make her well…famous.

“Kris was totally involved in arranging the sale of Kim’s tape. The video already existed, and Kris was there every step of the way as a middleman was brought in to market it to an adult entertainment company.” Interesting..

Independent journalism doesn't fund itself.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
