James Holmes has been charged with 24 counts of murder by Colorado prosecutors. Holmes is the man accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 others at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight RisesĀ in Aurora, Colorado.
He was also charged with 116 counts of attempted murder and possession of an explosive device, after police discovered his apartment was booby trapped to kill officers that entered his apartment.
Unlike Holmes’ first court appearance, cameras were not allowed in the courtroom by the judge. District Chief Judge Williams Sylvester said the coverage could interfere with Holmes’ right to a fair trial.
The 24-year-old former neuroscience student is not expected to enter a plea in the courtroom, and will do so verbally or through his attorney at a later time.
