A brilliant new ad campaign for Louis Vuitton features Mos Def, also known as Yasiin Bey, using the words of boxer Muhammad Ali to create a stunning visual effect.
The two videos, called “Dream” and “Word, were both inspired by Ali. Shot by Stuart McIntyre, the ads feature visual artist Niels Shoe Meulman painting on the ring canvas during Mos Def’s recitation.
This adds to the list of high-profile rap/fashion collaborations of late. Last week, RapFix reported that Azealia Banks is now the face of T By Alexander Wang. Previously, Banks’ “212” provided the soundtrack for Wang’s Spring 2012 campaign video. Other musicians who have worked with Wang in the past include Spank Rock and Santigold.
Yasiin Bey has been active as a featured guest on the large and small screens recently. He was a featured lyricist in Ice T’s “Art Of Rap” documentary alongside other hip-hop heavyweights like Rakim, Chuck D and Grandmaster Caz.
