Early this morning, Kerry Washington and Jimmy Kimmel, (who, judging by his outfit, was recently awakened out of bed to replace Nick Offerman) announced the nominees for the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
Mad Men received 17 Emmy nominations, tying FX’s frightening American Horror Story miniseries for the most mentions this year, according to an AP report. The AMC series poised to make Emmy history if it wins the best drama series for the fifth consecutive year in September. Actor Jon Hamm and actress Elisabeth Moss are both up for lead acting awards.
PBS’s Downtown Abbey did not trail far behind Mad Men and American Horror Story with its 16 Emmy nominations.
HBO newcomers Girls and Veep also garnered some big mentions, with both series in contention for outstanding comedy series. Also, Lena Dunham and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were given a nod each for the lead actress in a comedy category.
