Kerry Washington, the star of the Shonda Rhimes-produced hit Scandal, Boris Kodjoe and a parade of other stars showed up at the Comic-con convention in San Diego to serve on panels and to promote their latest projects. While starting as a convention for animation and comic book geeks, Comic-Con has now become a primary vehicle for publicizing a wide range of Hollywood projects that have nothing to do with animation.
Washington was there to be on a panel for the new Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, along with co-stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Walter Groggins. Boris Kodjoe was also there with Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez to promote Resident Evil: Retribution.
The casts of hit television shows Glee and True Blood were there to greet fans and to drop hints about their upcoming seasons. It has been confirmed that Glee Project winner Damian McGinty won’t be returning for the first part of the season. However, writers are unsure about the second half.
“Damian is not back this year,” Glee producer Brad Falchuk told reporters while at the convention. “The second half of the season, who knows. Right now, he won’t be in the first half of the season.” Fans will also get to see Sue Sylvester become a mom. “When we come back in, Sue has had her baby, although we still don’t know who the celebrity father of her child is,” said Ian Brennan, another producer. “She’s now Sue with a baby and a different set of priorities but still can’t help but make fun of everyone as often as possible.”
The cast of True Blood came with a clip of a teaser for the next season and a few spoilers of their own, including more information on Sookie, played by Anna Paquin, and her parents. There will also be more romantic pairings. “There’s also a lot of people having sex, but those don’t really count as romances,” said executive producer Alan Ball, who will be stepping down from his position next season.
