'National Lampoon's Vacation' Reboot May Have Found A Star In Ed Helms

Ed Helms is in negotiations to star in the upcoming National Lampoon’s Vacation reboot.

In the film, The Hangover star is slated to play Rusty Griswold, Chevy Chase character’s son from the original films. In the new movie, little Rusty will be all grown up and will lead his family on a vacation of his own.

The studio producing the new Vacation film, is hoping to add a spark to the franchise which started with the 1983 Harold Ramis-directed comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation. That original movie was written by John Hughes and was loosely based on his own family vacations experiences. After the first film, the franchise continued with three more editions starring Chase (Clark Griswold) including European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) and Vegas Vacation (1997).

At this time, there isn’t any word on where Rusty will take his family but rumor has it that they would take a trip to his old stomp-and-grounds, Wally World. Sources haven’t confirmed that story.

The David Dobkin production will start shooting in the spring after Helms finishes his work on The Office.
