This time-lapsed video entitled “This is Our Planet,” created by the 18-year-old Tomislav Safundžić, takes viewers on a journey in orbit over Earth.
The video features spectacular views of the planet at night, the aurora borealis over the poles, the lights of Earth’s cityscapes and even the bursts of lightning from periodically passing storms.
The ISS travels in low orbit at approximately 17,500 miles per hour and makes 16 orbits around the globe per day.
Safundžić complied an earlier video of life on the ISS which astronaut Ron Garan described as being “about as close as we can come to show what astronauts see in space.”
