Nigeria-based airline Dana Air has begun compensating the families of victims who died in last month’s tragic crash. Dana Air will give $100,000 to the families of each of the flight’s 153 passengers, who all perished in the crash. An unknown number of people on the ground were also killed when the plane crashed into a building in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, on June 3.
Airline spokesman Tony Usidamen said Wednesday that payments of $30,000 had been dispersed to nine families so far, with an additional $70,000 to be awarded later. He says that 67 other claims are being processed. Dana Air has been grounded by authorities since the crash, the cause of which has yet to be determined.
In his statement Usidamen said that the airline is “not thinking about flying now; we are more concerned about the accident victims’ families.”
