Roger Federer Advances to Semis To Play Djokovic at Wimbledon

Roger Federer was at his graceful, willful, impeccable best today in a straight-set demolition of Russian Mikhail Youzhny on Centre Court at Wimbledon today.

The 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 win by Federer vaults him into the semifinals, the first time he has been there at Wimbledon in three years. The win sets up a much-anticipated semifinal showdown between Federer and defending champion Novak Djokovic, who has been the best tennis player in the world over the past year, ranked number one since last August.

Djokovic won his first Wimbledon tital last year by beating Rafael Nadal in the finals last year. When Nadal was ousted in the second round this year by losing to 100th-ranked Lukas Rosol, it opened a door extremely wide for Federer. But he still has to get through Djokovic to have a chance to win his seventh Wimbledon title.

Amazingly, Federer and Djokovic have never played each other at Wimbledon.
