Twitter is infamous for spreading false rumors and Chris Brown was its latest victim.
Last night, reports surfaced claiming Brown was arrested outside of the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, where the BET Awards were being held. The alleged charge was weapons possession and rumors swirled that he was carrying a handgun to protect himself from rapper Drake, with whom he recently had an altercation.
Brown’s publicist denied the allegations, telling Gossip Cop they were with Brown the whole night. “Nothing of the sort happened,” said the rep.
Despite these rumors, Chris Brown took the stage at the BET Awards on Sunday to perform his songs “Turn Up the Music” and “Don’t Wake Me Up” clad in metallic boy paint. He also won awards for Best Male R&B Singer and Entertainer of the Year and during one of his acceptance speeches, he referred to his most recent album as his last, which sparked rumors of retirement.
“I’d like to thank Team Breezy, everybody who worked on any one of my albums. My last album that’s coming out in two days… I just want to thank all my fans,” Brown said to the crowd. “It’s dedicated to y’all. This one’s for y’all; man, I appreciate everything.”
It turned out that Brown meant the album was his latest and has no plans to retire.
