Tome Cruise and Katie Holmes may never jump up and down on the same couch again. The Hollywood couple, named by the media as TomKat, has decided to separate after five years of marriage.
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” said Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe in a statement. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
A rep for the actress added: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
Cruise and the Dawson’s Creek star have a 6-year-old daughter together named Suri. The former couple legally hitched in an expensive Italian ceremony in 2006.
The end of the couples relationship came as a shock to the entertainment industry, especially after Cruise’s infamous antics on the Oprah Winfrey Show. During his interview with Oprah, he professed his love for his now estranged wife by repeatedly jumping on the host’s couch saying, “I’m in love.”
The couple did have a pre-nuptial agreement, but sources say Katie may still walk away with $3 million for each year of their marriage.
While the unsuccessful marriage is the first for Holmes,33, the Mission Impossible star is no stranger to divorce. Cruise, 49, had previously tied and untied the knot with Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.
