'The Avengers' Cross $600 Million Mark Domestically

It’s no secret that The Avengers is the biggest movie of the year so far. As of yesterday the movie has continued its trend of smashing records.

Yesterday, the super hero movie surpassed the $600 million mark at the domestic box office.

Even more exciting for Disney and Marvel is that the film has yet to open in Japan, which takes place on August 17th.  At this point the total global payout is a colossal $1.438 billion!

With this new achievement the movie has overtaken Paramount’s Titanic, making it the 2nd highest grossing domestic film in history, after Avatar of course.

Keep in mind that none of these numbers reflect inflation, higher ticket prices and 3D prices. This means less people are actually going to movie theaters, and that studios have figured out a way to make the same amount of money by hiking up ticket prices and pushing 3D.
