Kirk Franklin to Headline Jamaica Event Marking 50th Anniversary of Independence

Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin will be traveling down to Kingston, Jamaica, next month to headline a popular event called Best Dressed Fun in the Son, which is part of the island’s celebration of its 50th anniversary since independence.

It is the 10th anniversary of the Best Dressed Fun in the Son event, which will take place at National Heroes Park in Kingston on July 14. In addition to Franklin, other musical artists slated to appear are Goddy Goddy, DJ Nicholas, New Creation, On the Shout band and Simply Chrysolite, an all-girls group from South Africa.

The event will also include a tour of National Heroes Park featuring actors dressed as various national heroes.

According to the promoter and director of Glory Music, Tommy Cowan, this year’s event will be different from other years because of the location.

“We have never really had it in the heart of the city. We’ve had Kirk Franklin here before, but we’ve never really had him in the city performing. We’re bringing in Junior Tucker, who has not been here for many years. We also can’t leave out people like Carlene Davis and Papa San, who have been with us for the 10 years,” Cowan said.
