We all know that President Obama is an avid sports fan, especially when it comes to teams in Chicago. Yesterday at a fundraiser in Boston’s Symphony Hall, the President may have antagonized the wrong crowd, as the Red Sox faithful did not take kindly to Obama’s friendly jab.
“I just want to say, thank you for Youkilis,” Obama said to a mix of boos and cries of “Yooook,” one of the nicknames for third baseman Kevin Youkilis. “I’m just saying, he’s going to have to change the color of his socks.”
On Sunday, the Boston Red Sox traded fan-favorite Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox for utility player Brent Lillibridge and pitcher Zach Stewart.
Obama quickly changed his tune, saying, “I should not have brought up baseball, I understand, my mistake, you got to know your crowd.” Tickets for the fundraiser held at Symphony Hall ranged from $250 and $2,500.
