The Daytime Emmys were broadcast on HLN on Saturday and big winners included longtime soap General Hospital and recently retired talk show host Regis Philbin.
General Hospital left the show with five awards, including best drama and star Anthony Creary’s seventh award for lead actor in a drama. Philbin’s former show, Live with Regis and Kelly scored a trophy for best entertainment talk show and Philbin and his former cohost Kelly Ripa each won a trophy for best talk show hosts. Philbin retired from the show last fall and there has been no announcement of a replacement. Neither Philbin nor Ripa were present to accept their awards.
Another highlight of the night was Barbara Walters presenting producer Bill Geddie with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Geddie and Walters have worked together on The View and Barbara Walters Specials.
ABC was the top network of the night with five wins and 56 nominations, the most out of all of the networks. NBC came second with three wins and CBS and the Food Network tied with two wins.
