Newark Mayor Cory Booker Helps Accident Victim

Cory Bookey, Newark, NJ’s superhero mayor, was at it again, this time helping to stabilize a pedestrian who had been the victim of a car accident.

Booker told the world about the incident via Twitter, but he said he was one of several people who helped the pedestrian. A Newark spokeswoman told the Associated Press that an Essex County detective arrived first on the scene, called 911, wiped blood from the face of the victim, poured water on his wounds and helped him lie still. When Booker happened to arrive on the scene minutes later, according to the Star-Ledger, he also helped stabilize the victim until police and ambulance arrived.

Booker is becoming nationally known for the lengths he goes to help his Newark constituents. His biggest heroic moment came in April, when the 42-year-old mayor ran into a burning home to rescue a woman, rebuffing his security guards who tried to hold them back. During the brutal Northeast winters, Booker has been known to show up at residents’ homes and help them shovel out their driveways.

Booker is a former tight end for Stanford who once caught a touchdown pass in the Rose Bowl.
