Filming for Brian Helgeland’s Jackie Robinson’s biopic 42 started last week in Macon, GA. Footage of actor Chadwick Boseman, who is playing the legendary baseball player, and a few other cast members, Nicole Beharie and Andre Holland, have hit the internet.
According to sources, the footage from the scenes in the pictures are from early parts of the film, where Robinson and his wife find a new place to live in Florida, after the slugger begins spring baseball training in 1946. In one of the scenes, Jackie and Rachel meet the family that they will be staying with.
Jackie Robinson was the first African American player on a Major League baseball team. In his rookie season, he had 12 homeruns, 29 steals and a .347 batting avg. As a result of his first year success, the Brooklyn Dodgers player was the most valuable player of the year.
Robinson was instrumental in bringing an end to segregation in the professional baseball league. Prior to that point, regulations prohibited African Americans from playing in the major leagues.
42 is slated to hit theaters April 12, 2013.
