Abbie Cornish has become the latest actress to enter into talks for a role in Jose Padilha’s Robocop reboot. The news comes on the heels of reports indicating that Samuel L. Jackson was in negotiations to join the cast of the action film.
Deadline has reported that Cornish has been offered the role as the wife of Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), the cop who is brought back to life and turned into a cyborg cop.
An impressive cast list appears to be in the works for the sci-fi movie. Besides the aforementioned, Gary Oldman is set to play the scientist who is responsible for the creation of Robocop.
The movie, a reboot of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven sci-fi classic, will be directed by Padilha. Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing the film, which is scheduled to begin shooting this September in Toronto. As of now, Robocop is scheduled to hit theaters in the Summer of 2013.
Abbie Cornish was last seen in Neil Burger’s Limitless, Zack Snyder’s The Girl, David Riker’s Sucker Punch, and Madonna’s W.E. She will next be seen in Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths alongside Colin Farrell and Sam Rockwell.
