Warner Bros Execs Wanted Leonardo DiCaprio To Play The Riddler In 'The Dark Knight Rises'

As the release of The Dark Knight Rises is quickly approaching, news has just been revealed that Catwoman and Bane were not necessarily Warner Bros. first choice to represent the villains in the movie.

Remarkably, the studio showed great interest in Leonardo DiCaprio playing The Riddler. Around the same time that The Dark Knight was released in 2008 and Nolan was pitching the next installment to the studio, Warner Bros. insisted that Dicaprio play the Riddler.

The Dark Knight Rises’s screenwriter, David Goyer, told Empire Magazine that a top Warner Bros. executive said, “Obvioulsy it’s gonna be The Riddler, and we want it to be Leonardo DiCaprio.”  For unknown reasons that deal fell through. Obviously!

The upcoming Batman movie will mark the end of Nolan’s relationship with the franchise. Though the film has gotten a lot of news coverage, and plenty leaked photos, and videos were all over the internet, no one knows how the film will end and questions still linger whether or not Batman dies in the end. (Thank God, because that would be TOO much of a spoiler!)

Nolan may be out, but that doesn’t mean that there will never be another Batman movie, so don’t rule out DiCaprio for a future Riddler role.
