'Scream' The Movie To Be Made Into Upcoming MTV Series

Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s Scream franchise film is getting its own TV series on MTV.

Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley, who are the former MTV executives and the creators behind Laguna Beach and Teen Mom are on board to executive produce the show. The series is still in the early development stage though; Disanto and Gately are still searching for someone to write the script. At this time, it’s unclear if Williamson or Craven will be involved.

Scream will air weekly and will be based on the franchise movies that have cumulatively grossed over $500 million globally.

The most recent installment of the franchises’ films Scream 4, hit theaters last year. It didn’t do as well as expected – only grossing $38 million domestically on a $48 million budget. Globally, the film made $98 million, but the studios still didn’t grant the project a fifth movie.

The original Scream was a 1996 modern American horror film written by Williamson and directed by Craven. The film starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Drew Barrymore, and David Arquette, and was released on December 20, 1996.
