Showtime has renewed Nurse Jackie for Season 5, despite the exit of two of its executive producers.
Emmy-nominated Clyde Phillips will replace Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius, who exited the New York-based dramedy a few months back.
“Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television,” said Showtime Entertainment’s David Nevins.
Phillips was an executive producer for the first four seasons of Dexter. He also created and executive produced Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.
Nurse Jackie’s fourth season is closely coming to an end. The season premiered to more than 1.1 million viewers, an achievement which beat the previous year by 30 percent. The series has been averaging 2.8 million total weekly viewers including On Demand, live, seven viewing, and replays.
There is no set date as of yet, but production on Nurse Jackie’s season five will begin in late 2012.
