Delta Cutting Direct Flights from Atlanta to Accra and Other Major International Routes

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is cutting back on international flying, with the discontinuation of flights from Atlanta to Accra, Ghana as its latest route cancellation. Yet some routes are getting a boost, including more Delta flights for the winter from Atlanta to Amsterdam.

Delta normally flies the Atlanta-Amsterdam route twice daily during the summer and once daily during the winter. But this winter Delta will add a second daily flight to Amsterdam four days a week, beginning Oct. 27. Delta’s joint venture partner KLM also flies once daily from Atlanta to Amsterdam and operates a connecting hub in Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, Delta has discontinued routes from Atlanta to Shanghai; Athens, Greece; Copenhagen, Denmark; Moscow; Prague; and Tel Aviv, Israel this year. Effective Aug. 12, Delta will also stop flying from Atlanta to Accra and to Monrovia, Liberia via Accra, citing high fuel costs. It began flying from Atlanta to Accra and Monrovia in 2010 and will continue flying to those destinations from New York.
