ABC has decided to renew Kerry Washington’s television drama Scandal for a second season.
The show is a major showcase for Washington, who stars as a Washington, D.C., power broker and former White House staffer who gets hired by every major D.C. player when they are in trouble and need to find a way out of their crisis. The show also stars Columbus Short, who is one of the lawyer’s in Washington’s crisis management firm. One more detail: Washington’s character is also in the midst of a torrid affair with her former boss—the white Republican president.
Show creator Shonda Rhimes, who is also the architect behind the award-winning Gray’s Anatomy, tweeted “Am super proud to say that @scandalABC has been picked up for a 2nd season!!! Am doing a little dance of joy.”
A recent survey revealed that of the 7 million viewers who tuned into Scandal’s debut in April, more than a quarter of them were African American.
