A day later, New York Yankees closer extraordinaire Mariano Rivera vowed to now let the torn ACL he suffered prior to Thursday’s game in Kansas City be the last image of him on a baseball field.
Although 42 and facing a long and difficult rehab, Rivera said Friday night: ”I’m coming back. Write it down in big letters. I’m not going out like this.”
The 12-time All-Star with a baseball best 602 saves said he pondered a return to the game much of Thursday night/Friday morning.
”I love to play the game,” he said. “To me, I don’t think going out like this is the right way. ‘I don’t want to retire because I got hurt in the way that it happened. I don’t think like that. With the strength of the Lord, I just have to continue.”
