Spike Lee Releases First Trailer For 'Red Hook Summer'

Variance Films has released the first trailer for Spike Lee’s new movie Red Hook Summer.

The Inside Man director is ready to showcase his personal interests again with his latest film, Red Hook Summer. As a result, the movie has already been subject to controversial discussions just like the responses to Lee’s older works such as Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever and Malcolm X.

Red Hook Summer is based on a young boy from Atlanta who travels to Brooklyn to spend the summer with his grandfather. His elder is a preacher who is on the path to convince his grandson to find God. Thereafter, the story takes the audience in several surprising directions, twist and turns.

“From my very first joint back in 1986, She’s Gotta Have It, I have been an independent filmmaker, and even today I still am,” Lee said in a statement. “I’m elated to join forces with Variance Films for the independent distribution of my new joint Red Hook Summer. We look forward to getting this film into the marketplace, where we believe 100 percent that there is a starving audience for American independent films like Red Hook Summer.”

The movie will be released August 10th in New York and then broadened to the top 30 markets throughout the month of August. View the trailer and pictures for the film below:
