Walt Disney Pictures has retained rock singer, guitarist and producer Jack White to write, produce and perform the score for the upcoming film The Lone Ranger.
The Gore Verbinski directed movie will be the first film
White has produced an entire movie score for. However, the Grammy-winning rocker did work with Alicia Keys to write and perform the theme song for the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace (2008). He also performed several songs, including “Wayfaring Stranger” for the score to Cold Mountain (2003).
In a statement to Variety, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed White’s involvement in The Lone Ranger saying:
“Jack’s an amazing songwriter with a unique style. We’re thrilled to hear his fresh take on the William Tell Overture. Gore hatched the idea and Johnny was thrilled with it. We’re all very excited to have him on board.”
Verbinski will helm Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid. Depp and Verbinski also worked together in Pirates of the Caribbean.
The Lone Ranger is scheduled to be released on May 31, 2013.
