Who Will Destroy The White House First – Roland Emmerich Or Antoine Fuqua?

The race is on for two films to see which one can hit theaters first and destroy the White House.  The competition is between Sony Pictures White House Down and Millennium Films Olympus Has Fallen. The reason for this race is primarily due to the fact that the premise of both films are very similar.

White House Down is an action thriller built around a para military takeover of the White House. Last week it was announced that Roland Emmerich is in talks to direct the film. Emmerich previously destroyed the White House back in 1996 in Independence Day. The studio is starting with a $3 million dollar script by veteran Jamie Vanderbilt, but no word on when production will begin.

Similarly, Training Day director Antoine Fuqua is now in talks to direct Olympus Has Fallen, a film in which Gerard Butler will star as an ex-secret service agent who must protect the Capitol building from violent terrorists. The script was written by rookies Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.

Production of Fuqua’s project was scheduled to begin in September, but due its competition, the shoot time could be moved to as early as this June.

At this point, it appears that Olympus Has Fallen has taken the lead. However, no production is immune to time consuming set-backs. This should be interesting to see who will come out on top.
