Danai Gurira Lands Fan Favorite Character In AMC's 'The Walking Dead'

AMC’s The Walking Dead has cast yet another fan favorite character. Danai Gurira nabs the role as the sword-wielding woman, Michonne. The character made her debut in the final moments of Sunday’s season two finale; saving Andrea from certain death with a single slash from her blade, while shackled to two armless zombies.

In the original comic, the two zombies in tow are her boyfriend, Mike, and his best friend, Terry.  They stop trying to attack her, and because of their presence, decrease the chances of other zombies attacking her. Having survived a long time alone in the wilderness, the former Atlanta, Georgia lawyer decides to join the group of survivors.

Gurira is best known for her role in HBO’s drama, Treme. She has also made a number of small appearances on TV shows. Landing the role of Michonne is a major accomplishment for the actress. She’s likely to become a household name considering the continuing success of AMC’s zombie drama, The Walking Dead.
